Printed spares pay off in small quantities, on older machines and for parts nobody makes anymore. Price per part is secondary when the line is down.

Machine and equipment parts

Covers, guides, clamps, idler rollers and brackets that break in service and are no longer catalogued.

Gears and drive components

PA12 and PA12-CF run dry, damp noise and replace worn plastic gears in auxiliary drives.

Housings and panels

ASA and PC-ABS handle heat and sunlight, which makes them a better fit for outdoor and engine bay parts than PLA or PETG.

Obsolete and classic vehicle parts

From a used sample we build a properly measured geometry that can be produced again at any time.

Suitable materials

For a spare part the application decides, not the original material. Temperature, sustained load, friction and media contact are what matter.

What we need for a remake

  • 01Photos from every side with a scale in frame, or better a STEP file.
  • 02The functional dimensions: hole diameters, hole spacing, fits and installed width.
  • 03Where and how the original failed. That area gets reinforced or reoriented.
  • 04Temperature, load and contact with oil, cleaners or fuel in service.
  • 05Quantity needed and whether we should keep the geometry on file for repeat orders.

Reproducing spare parts when no drawing exists

The usual starting point for spare parts is awkward: the part is broken, the manufacturer no longer supplies it and no drawing exists. In that case we work from the existing part. Dimensions come off the original, critical fits from the machine, and both feed a CAD model that we hand over with the parts.

With material the point is not to copy the original but to meet the function. A broken plastic lever was often injection moulded PA. For a remake we use PA12 or PA12-CF and adjust wall thickness where useful, because the load is known and printing allows different freedoms.

Once the part is captured digitally, reordering becomes routine. We keep the model and the parameter set, so a repeat delivery runs without measuring and without a new approval. That is the real gain: replenishment time drops from weeks to days.

Spare parts FAQ

I only have the broken part, no CAD data. Is that enough?
In many cases yes. From photos with dimensions, a hand measurement or a 3D scan the part can be rebuilt. What matters are the functional dimensions: holes, hole spacing, fits and wall thickness at the failure point.
Is a printed spare as durable as the original?
It depends on the original. A molded ABS part can often be matched or beaten with ASA or PC-ABS. For load bearing metal parts printing only fits where load and temperature are known. We say plainly when a part does not belong in plastic.
How fast can a line-down part be delivered?
With existing geometry we dispatch express within 24 hours. With reconstruction expect 2 to 4 working days to the first part.
Can you keep a digital spare parts inventory?
Yes. Approved geometries and parameter sets stay on file with us, so repeat orders run without new clarification and without shelf stock.
