Quality you can trace

Printed parts are only as good as the process behind them. This page describes how we review data, release first articles, control production runs and what dimensional accuracy you can realistically expect.

1. Data review before quoting

Every file is reviewed before the quote, not just before printing. We check wall thickness, holes, overhangs and the features that typically cause trouble in FDM.

  • Feedback on walls below 1.2 mm, sharp internal corners and holes without machining allowance
  • A note when a material change makes the part cheaper or more durable
  • Clarifying the critical dimensions before build orientation is fixed

2. First article and release

For batches we produce the first part, measure it and only then lock the profile. That profile stays in place for all repeat orders so batch two matches batch one.

  • Measurement of the stated functional dimensions with calipers and gauges
  • Fit check against the real mating component when one is available
  • Documented material, lot, nozzle, layer height and orientation

3. Control during the run

In a production run the first, middle and last part are measured. Deviations show up before a whole batch is finished, not later on the customer's assembly bench.

  • Visual check of every unit for layer adhesion, warping and surface defects
  • Sorting out instead of shipping and replacing: defective parts do not leave the shop
  • The same material lot within one batch wherever available

4. Post processing, counting, shipping

Support removal, reaming of accurate holes, fitting threaded inserts and counting are part of the job, not extras.

  • Threaded inserts are fitted and checked for seating, not just supplied loose
  • Cosmetic faces are sanded, primed and painted on request
  • Packaging that gets thin-walled parts through transport undamaged

Realistic tolerances

Figures from ongoing production. They apply to sound geometry and suitable orientation, not to every special case.

PLA, PETG, carbon filled grades
about ±0.2 mm or ±0.2 % of nominal, whichever is larger
ABS, ASA, PC
about ±0.3 mm or ±0.3 %, with more deviation across long flat faces
Vertical holes
come out 0.1 to 0.3 mm undersize, so we compensate in the profile or ream
Tighter requirements
single dimensions below ±0.1 mm via machining allowance and post machining

How we work

  • 01We say before the order what FDM cannot sensibly produce, instead of trying it and invoicing anyway.
  • 02Tolerance figures come from ongoing production experience, not from marketing copy.
  • 03Critical dimensions belong in a short drawing or note. A part where everything is critical usually belongs in machining.
  • 04Repeat orders run on the released profile so the result does not quietly change.
