Large parts, cleanly split and joined
Our build volume is about 250 x 250 x 250 mm. Larger parts are split so seams sit in non-critical areas, and the segments are joined accurately.
We agree the split with you first
Typical applications
When the part is bigger than a printer.
Machine guards
Large covers and panels.
Full-scale models
Product models at original size.
Ducts
Air ducts and extraction hoods.
Gauges and nests
Long gauges and workpiece nests.
Suitable materials
For large parts we prefer low-warp materials such as PETG and PLA. ASA and ABS are possible but need more care.
- PETGTough everyday material with grade-dependent compliance options.
- ASAThe outdoor specialist - ABS mechanics with true UV stability.
- PLAFast, affordable prototyping and visual parts.
- ABSClassic engineering ABS - strong, affordable, easy to finish.
What we consider when splitting
- 01Seams away from visible faces and critical dimensions.
- 02Dowels or tongue and groove for alignment.
- 03Joining method: screws, adhesive or both.
- 04Overall tolerance across the length.
Splitting is design work
Simply cutting a model with a plane rarely works well. Each segment has to print sensibly, joining faces need to be large enough, and the parts must align unambiguously.
We propose the split before printing, so you decide where seams may be.

Large part FAQ
Is the seam visible?
A fine line usually remains. If appearance matters, we fill and sand the seam.
Is a joined part as strong as a one-piece part?
Not quite at the seam. We therefore place it where loads are low or reinforce it with screws.
How large can the total part be?
There is no fixed limit. Above a certain size we check with you whether another process is cheaper.
How do I get a price?
Upload your STEP or STL file in the instant quote. You see the price immediately, and we check the file for problems before production.
Which information is needed for Large parts?
Send a STEP file where possible, together with quantity, operating temperature, load, environmental conditions and critical dimensions. This lets us define material, orientation, production strategy and inspection effort for the part.

Why Larger FDM Orders Fail (And How to Avoid It)
FDM forgives at low volumes and punishes at high ones. Why scaling FDM is a process problem, not a printer problem.
Post-processing FDM parts: from print to visible part
FDM parts come off the machine with visible layers. For many functional parts that does not matter, for visible parts it does. What sanding, fillers and paint can achieve, and where the limits are.
PETG or PLA: Which Material Fits Your Part?
PLA is stiffer, PETG survives more. The honest comparison for functional parts, not for display models.
