What can realistically be printed express

Express works when geometry, material and preparation line up. Not every request can be sped up without risking quality.

Small functional samples

Single parts up to roughly palm size in PETG, PLA or ABS with a clean STEP file are the classic express candidates.

Spare parts without post processing

A functional spare part without a threaded insert or paint finish can usually be produced directly with no intermediate steps.

Design reviews before a series order

A fast sample shows fit and proportion before material and process are finalized for the series.

What does not go express

Large PA12-CF parts needing drying, painted parts or parts with inserts, and series from about ten pieces run on the regular lead time.

What express really means and where the limit lies

Express in 3D printing does not mean every part is finished within a day, it means a specific class of parts moves through the process with no detours. Small parts in PETG, PLA or ABS with an already print-ready STEP file need no material drying, no clarification on wall thickness and no post processing. That exact combination can ship in 24 to 72 hours. As soon as one of these factors is missing, the time extends, not because we work slower, but because the extra step is real.

For large PA12-CF parts several delays stack up. The filament is hygroscopic and must be dried before processing, otherwise the melt bubbles and strength drops. Large volumes also need considerably more print time than small parts, and thicker walls cool more slowly, which encourages warping if not enough time is scheduled. Painted parts or parts with threaded inserts additionally go through a post processing step that does not run in parallel with printing. And for larger quantities, print time spreads across multiple build plates, multiplying total time compared to a single part.

Anyone preparing a request for the fastest possible turnaround should provide a closed STEP file with no missing faces, keep to a minimum wall thickness of 0.8 mm, and clarify beforehand whether post processing such as painting or inserts is even needed. A short note on which face can serve as the bed contact surface saves a follow-up question and therefore time. This preparation more often decides the actual lead time than material choice alone.

Can I get any part in 24 hours?
No. Small parts in PETG, PLA or ABS with a print-ready STEP file can ship in 24 to 72 hours. Large parts in PA12-CF, painted parts or parts with inserts, and larger quantities need the regular lead time of 2 to 4 working days for samples or 4 to 15 working days for series.
Why do PA12-CF parts take longer than PETG parts?
PA12-CF is hygroscopic and must be dried before printing, otherwise strength suffers. That drying step takes time that PETG or PLA does not need. Larger PA12-CF parts also need more print time due to thicker walls and slower cooling rates.
What does my file need to look like to print right away?
A closed, watertight STEP file with no missing faces, a minimum wall thickness of 0.8 mm and a clearly identifiable build orientation. Sketches or incomplete models need extra clarification before printing.
Does express apply to larger quantities too?
Express suits single parts or a handful of samples. From about ten identical parts, print time across multiple build plates rises, and the regular series lead time of 4 to 15 working days applies.
