Packaging, storage and handling of FDM parts
An inspected part can become unusable through poor stacking, heat or unprotected transport. Packaging is therefore part of the process chain and follows geometry, material and delivery route.
In brief
Support thin arms, store large flat parts without stress, separate sensitive surfaces and identify variants clearly.
Mechanical protection
Plastic parts do not always need more cushioning, but suitable load paths in the packaging.
- Do not transfer load through clips, snap arms or thin walls.
- Separate parts so rough faces do not abrade cosmetic surfaces.
- Secure heavy inserts or attachments against movement.
Climate and material
Moisture, temperature and UV affect polymers differently.
- Heat
- Do not store under sustained load in heated areas
- Moisture
- Check material and functional requirement; store dry and clean
- UV
- Protect long-term storage from direct sunlight
Logistics and variants
Mix-up prevention is as important as transport protection.
- State part number, revision, quantity and batch on the container.
- Supply mixed variants only in separate, labelled compartments.
- Provide unpacking and storage instructions when geometry needs special support.
